Question

El traje no hace al hombre pero le da figura.

We have a similar saying in English. Do you know what it is? "Clothes don't make the man." In Spanish, the saying means that "The suit doesn't make the man but it does give him the figure."

Do you know other sayings like this in Spanish?

My mother in-law (mexicana) used this......

"Un ajonjoli del otro mole." (A sesame seed of a different mole.) when someone would change the subject.

In English we use "A horse of a different color".
