Two letter "Ls" together is said to be pronounced as "Y"
When two letter "L"s appear side by side in any Spanish word the rule says to pronounce it as a "Y"
Why am I hearing a "J" sound every time the double "L" comes up on my Spanish pronunciation disc?

There are a number of pronunciations for the double "L" in Spanish, from something similar to the sound of the English "y" to an "sh", "ch", "j" and "Ly". It's a regional difference. More than once I have identified that someone was from Argentina simply by the way he or she pronounced the double "L".
It varies with dialect. Personally I think the "j" sounds better.
Here in Argentina a LL is pronounced more like 'sh'
I wonder if this varies by location. I have understood "ll" as a "ya" sound, but many of my friends from Puerto Rico pronounce it as a "ja" sound.
That is the way it is supposed to be pronounced. It is like in the word "llevar" to wear or to carry. It sounds like "yevar". I hope that you found this helpful.
