2M + 1 Billy and Ian now retire !!

By agreement with Billy I am posting this thread - we have had fun but it is time to do something more creative that will improve our Spanish.

2,000,001 points

That was our target and here we stop - unless we find a really good flashcard set that we want to practice on.

If we don't have enough vocabulary now we never will.

I wonder who will be next?

I would like to remind the website designers that we are not all "touch-typists" that have Spanish keyboards.

Writing down words - or keying them in - is a very good way of remembering words but the time allowed is not enough for most of us or for the the longer sentences and phrases.

SO please increase the time allowed for those of us with 10 thumbs

just fixed the bold word.... - hlsbookworm, Mar 1, 2010
I'm a good typist and I have my keyboard set up so I can type Spanish characters with two keystrokes but I still have a hard time typing a lot of the flashcard responses. I agree the time is way too short. - Lrtward, Mar 1, 2010
Amen! I am glad you said that , i thought it was only me who was so slow, Sadu Sadu Sadu!!! - ray76, May 11, 2010

Special thanks to Ian and all who answered and will answer this post. It has been a wild ride and I have gained much: a good friend in Ian and many others. I have learned many new words. I hope that we will serve to encourage others on their quest to learn Spanish. I totally agree with all Ian said. I have learned many words but now I/we must go on to study more grammer and other points of the Spanish language. I think I can safely speak for Ian when I say that neither of us are fluent. We must go on to other areas of study. I will still do flashcards but I will do them without loging in so that the points won't count. I think too big a score might discouage newcomers. I know when I first started even as much as 60K seemed impossible. Thanks and praise to the Lord and thanks to all of you my dear, dear friends at spanish dict punto com. Now, I'm going to Disneyland grin.

That was our target and here we stop

Do you mean you're going to stop cold-turkey! Yikes. ohh Shouldn't you try to get off of SpanishAddict in small, gradual steps? I wonder if there are any case studies dealing with withdrawal symptoms from doing lessons and flashcards on SpanishDict! wink

Wow! is seems like only a few weeks ago that we were celebrating your achievement of 1M points and, already you've doubled that score! I remember clearly when (last summer). Heidita asked a number of us to review the flash cards for correctness and my pleasant surprise on discovering that if you had already reviewed them, all the errors had been detected and it only remained for me to say "Yup, what he said."

Proofreading is not the same skill as fluency (if anything fluency can interfere because one sees what one expects to see) but your help was invaluable.

Thank you, samdie. Good comments, I am sure Ian's review was better than mine. - billy-jones, Mar 1, 2010
I am expert in "finding faults" so I am told. Not the best of attributes when it comes to personal relationships though. I am getting better at seeing what is "good". :) - ian-hill, Mar 1, 2010
Thanks samdie - I just wish I were fluent - maybe one day. - ian-hill, Mar 1, 2010
