Unplanned events
Please explain the formulation of unplanned events in Spanish; for example: "Me se olvidó el examen."
1 Answer
The order is always reflexive pronoun, i.o.p, d.o.p., then verb in the order of pronouns.
The subject pronoun can precede these or follow the verb.
When these pronouns are attached to the infinitive, present participle, or command they still follow that order.
Me se olvidó
This is incorrect. If "me" were a subject pronoun it would be "yo". If it is a dative or accusative pronoun then it should follow the "se".
Se me olvidó el exam.
Se me olvidaron los libros. The books got forgotten by me.
I love that explanation about shifting the blame!
