How is "ch" pronounced?
What is the correct way to pronounce "Chile"?
Thank you. Boomer1946

Gerald Erichson comments in the brief audio lesson Fidalgo pointed us to that the "ch" is pronounced much like the "ch" in English
although perhaps a bit softer than in English.
Although I am sure that the native Spanish-speaker will find it easy to understand me because, as Gerald puts it, "many of the consonants are pronounced almost like their English equivalents". The opposite is not true!
My untrained ear finds it difficult to understand the native speaker - often even words I know - and especially if I cannot see the speakers lips. It is only easy to follow -- (ok, easier) -- if I have the written material in front of me........which is why I am so stubbornly trying to learn the language through my ear by listening (and, I should add, transcribing).
The drawback is that I may first "get there" as we colloquially put it, when I have heard everything anyone has to say anywhere:>)
What I am trying to jokingly express is that each new little audio chapter in the CD's I am listening to seems to be my first! ...This is true even after I have come to understand everything in the prior chapter directly in Spanish without recourse to translation.
But, no, I am not going to give up.
Same as in "church" chancho = pig
