What is today?

What day is it?

What day is today?

What day is it today?

I would like to know if all of these sentences are correct or there are any mistakes.

Thank you.

"what is it today?" ............... it = ?????

But if the context is clear, for example......

"Yesterday was Tuesday............ what is today?"

"Yesterday it was Tuesday .........what is it today?"

Does that make sense, Nila?

Hola,

All of these are correct English frases, and only governed by context of conversation.

There are, however, more and less commonly recognised sentences that would be considered clearer grammer.

"What is today" lacks a little information and 'may' be answered by "What do you mean?" without the given context.

These are very clear and grammatically correct in my opinion:

"What day is it?" = "Today is Sunday"

"What day is today?" = " Today is Sunday"

"What day is it today?" = Today it is Sunday"

Using the word day and today gives the context you want the answer to.

You mean, "other" can be used in singular too. From now on, I will say "the other", "this other" and so on.

Si. Other puede ser usado en singular. Si tienes algo especifico en mente, usa other. Si no, usa another. Para ponerlo en otra forma, si uses the, this, o that, usa other. Si no, usa another. Si escribes "this another", es algo como "este un otro." (No tiene buen sentido).

The other = el otro / la otra

This other = este otro / esta otra

That other = ese otro / esa otra

An other = another = (un) otro / (una) otra

Hi Nila

what is it today?

what is today?

These are not incorrect as already pointed out, however, I personally wouldn't say them due to the ambiguity with the day or the date. They need qualification.

what day is it today?

what day is today?

what date is it today?

what date is today?

what is it today?

No, esta frase no significa nada por tiempo.

Podría ser usado para expresar frustración, y en este caso significaría algo como "¿Qué horrible cosa ocurrirá / ocurrió hoy?" Pero, por este sentido, es más probable que digamos "What now?" o "What is it now?" Además, uno podría decirle esta frase a un cliente habitual, significando "¿Qué te gustaría hoy?" Pero normalmente digamos "What would you like today?" o algo así.

I think all of these can be used in some context. The only mistake I see is in your last sentence. It should be: I would like to know if all of these sentences are correct, or if there are any mistakes.

Thank you. Sometimes, I get angry with myself. The second mistake is unforgivable. I have to pay attention. - nila45, Feb 28, 2010

Me parecen buenas todas. La respuesta para todas sea un día de semana.

Ejemplo:

Cuestión: What is today?

Respuesta: Sunday.
