it is taken from "el Sirenito" by Rigo Tovar.

I think that "se enfermo de gravidad" is not actually refering to the siren but to the couple's situation. Something like: "More than nine months went by without incident. But, just as the thirteenth month approached, things became vastly more troublesome" See enfermar which doesn't always have to be in the context of getting sick. I'm not sure about this but it does seem to make sense being that he is accused in Neptune's court of eating his wife for breakfast and sentenced to be shot by a firing squad until she shows up and saves him.

Viernes de dolores is a catholic holiday, but I have sources that say it is the friday before good friday, and that it is good friday, I wonder if it is a day of fasting also

If you go to this site and Translate the page you can see a very bad machine translation into English, but it translates it as "gravely ill" and "Friday of Sorrows".

Something like:

While I was diving along the ocean floor, I fell in love with a beautiful siren. Once out of the sea, without hesitation, I asked for her hand, and we were married on the shore. More than nine months went by without incident. But, just as the thirteenth month approached, she became deathly ill.

Hmmm...perhaps a reference to going into labor??? I'm afraid I'm just an advanced beginner at Spanish.

Thats what i was thinking, but then it could mean very sick, because he was accused by shark soldiers of, uhm, eating her? - orangemangoez, Feb 28, 2010
plus, I thought that viing birth was "dar a luz", a friend in Mexico used that when he showed me two plants you can use to help with inflammation, one of the plants was "pata de vaca" because it looked like a cows foot. - orangemangoez, Feb 28, 2010

hmm, but that does not fit the rest of the song really, which is basically, that "we had a baby mermaid, just a year after we were married, with the face of an angel and the tail of a fish" so I guess I was wondering if it was another way to say she was giving birth, or if gravedad was "gravity" like it hit her, or something. here are the rest of the lyrics for context.

actually, "viernes de dolores" doesn't make sense either, painful fridays? - orangemangoez, Feb 28, 2010
