Direct object pronoun confusion!

Por ejemplo..

If I want to say 'I have to wake my daughter at 8 o'clock'

is it correct to say 'Tengo que despertar a mi hija a las 8' ?

Or do I need to say 'Tengo que la despertar a mi hija a las 8' ?

(or would that mean 'I have to make my daughter wake herself at 8'...)

Thanks :D

Yes

Or do I need to say 'Tengo que la despertar a mi hija a las 8' ?

If you are going to use the object pronoun, it might be better to just say something like

Tengo que despertarla a las 8

Muchas gracias :) - confusion came about when Paralee said 'in espagnol you always need the object pronoun.' - galsally, Feb 28, 2010
And.... I repeated the lesson and found I had been sloppy! It's the indirect object pronoun whihc is always needed. - galsally, Mar 4, 2010
