I think is because when you say whiskey your mouth ends in a position likely when you smile xD
Day by day the fancy habits in our society are taking away the traditional ones. It's a pity for me ![]()
My uncle was a professional photographer and I still remember his hallmark expression. He was the obvious choice of photographer at family reunions, so I heard it dozens of times. It was extremely funny when I was a kid, which I suppose was the point... To make you smile. I still smile thinking back on the memories.
He would say:
Everybody say Fuzzy Pickles! ![]()
In Serbian, we say "Birdie!" ![]()
When you take a photo, you say "say cheese" and in Spanish:
¡Di patata!
i dont get it... (?)
They say, "Di whiskey" in Mexico, too. ![]()
This could also be an English pronunciation problem.
Di whiskey is in di store, but I don't have di money to buy it. ![]()
I learned that one in Mexico City ![]()
There is a very funny scene in the Japanese film "Tokyo Monogatari" ("Tokyo Story) from the '50s directed by Ozu Yasujiro, in which during a group photo, a (somewhat "old-fashioned") Japanese man says "butter" (instead of "cheese") which results (with Japanese pronunciation) in a quite sever (if not scowling) expression. Both butter and cheese being considered "foreign" foods by the Japanese (and Chinese and, probably, the rest of the Asian countries), his confusion is understandable.
lo que pasa que en argentina no se dice patatas para nada, se dice papas y eso no hace sonreír.
