Neglecting the argument about whether a subordinate clause with a subjunctive verb is needed (3 general rules for subjunctive: 1. subordinate clause 2. subject change 3. WEIRDO condition) there are rules for which tense to use in the subordinate clause depending on the tense of the verb in the main clause. tenses in subjunctive mode

Your WEIRDO main clause verb (miedo) is in the present tense.

Therefore, the subjunctive verb in the dependent clause would have to be either present or present perfect subjunctive (tenga or haya tenido); not imperfect subjunctive (tuviera).

However, I agree that it would be better to use the verb infinitive and not a subordinate clause as you did.

I don't understand the question because in my opinion

¡Qué miedo! Mañana tengo que ir al dentista

is correct.

I agree. No subject change to require a subordinate clause. - 0074b507, Feb 25, 2010
