I'm assuming that 'gf' was "girlfriend"? - chaparrito, Feb 25, 2010
Glad that you explained it. Your title seems to say that you want to marry your gf's mom. - 0074b507, Feb 25, 2010

No personal experience to back this up, but in a book that I have been reading one of the characters asks permission in the following manner:

Buenos días, señora. Me llamo (your name), para servirle. Soy amigo de su hija, (her name) y estoy enamorado de ella. Mis intenciones son tan formales que le pido su mano en matrimonio.

nice for the XVIII centrury I zanoni... lol, it sounds good but is more literature that real speaking. I like the part: soy amigo de su hija y estoy enamorado de ella. :-) - juluque, Feb 25, 2010
The book was written in 1996, but the speaker was very old, so that may have something to do with the "old-fashioned" feel of the line - Izanoni1, Feb 25, 2010

Just say: "¡Enhorabuena!, usted va a ser abuela." The rest should just fall into place...

(Note: Please don't take me seriously!) wink

Please notice that Mexican and most people in South America are very serious and formal about dropping the question, so I would come out with something more formal and elaborated such as:

¿Me otorgaría el honor de casarme con su hija?

(Could I have the honor to marry your daughter?)

alt:

Sería un gran honor poder casarme con su hija !

It would be a great honor to marry your daughter!

To Blanca:

Me harías el honor de casarte conmigo?
