"Alguiler y venta de smokings para todas las ocasiones" Does "smokings" mean tuxedos? What is the infinitive of "venta"? I thought it mean to purchase/buy, but that's the incorrect stem for vender. Please help!

It looks to me like a typo in the first word... Should be alquiler...

What it means is "Rental and sale of tuxedos for all occasions." Neither alquiler nor venta are verbs but rather nouns. As in "a rental" or "a sale." You're on the right track seeing the relationship between the noun venta and the verb vender though!

Another note... I know "alquilar" (and it's compainion noun ' el alquiler')is the correct verb to use for "to rent," but the verb "rentar" (and 'la renta') is used a lot in Mexico. It may be used elsewhere too but I'm not certain.

Hope that helps! Aaron

venta=sale

Not all nouns are formed from verbs, although vender is probably the closest related verb.

It could be referring to a "smoking jacket" (chaqueta de media gala) even though I can't imagine what the occasions are, if it is. Probably something less formal than a "black tie only" event. Frankly, I always thought of a smoking jacket as something that you wore at home.
