Hace much tiempo que + infinitive

We are studying the past perfect tense right now, and Hace mucho tiempo que + infinitive is apparently used with this tense. How would I use it in a sentence?

I want to say something along the lines of "a long time ago, I already/not yet ______ before/when I _______"

I just need to use the expression in the perfect past tense (plucuamperfecto). So, I guess, "hace mucho tiempo que había comido antes de jugar con mis amigos" is something I'm trying to go for.

Would this be incorrect? The Spanish I'm studying is strictly textbook and it's definitely not want native speakers use.

It' wrong. If you want to use the Perfect past or pluscuamperfecto you should use the past first and say: "Hacía mucho tiempo que había entrado a la Academia cuando le habló por primera vez"

Hace mucho tiempo que + infinitive sounds like Tarzan speaking Spanish. it doesn´t make sense to use it as a general rule.

You usually use Hace mucho tiempo que + present tense:

Hace mucho que vengo a este bar.

Hace mucho que la tortuga no come.

Unless you mean something with that infinitive functioning as a noun:

Hace mucho tiempo que comer es un lujo en Somalía, but this is not very usual.
