I was under the impression that with a profession the indefinte article "un or una", was not needed.

¿Eres un maestro, verdad?. Adding "no" or "verdad" at the end of a sentence you add the effect of "right?" at the end.

Well I am inclined to disagree with you. Please look at the following clip, particulaly the following time lines.

02:03 - Es policia, 03:16 - Es cocinero, 04:18 - Ser bombero, 06:32 - do NOT use the indefinite article.

You will first have to wait for the advert to finish.
