How do I say "Continue straight ahead for four more blocks." ?

Can I say it like this?

Continúa derecho por cuatro cuadras más.

I saw it in my book without "por," they just said: "Continúa derecho cuatro cuadras más." Why would they not have "por" ?

Just as in English both sound correct.

Continue ahead [straight] for 4 more blocks.

Continue ahead 4 more blocks.

They are using the more common, conversational construction.

Other expressions for go straight ahead

keep ~ on until you come to the lights

sigue derecho hasta llegar al semáforo

Welcome to the forum!

Things do not translate word for word from English to Spanish. The grammar is different. You just simply do not need "for" in the Spanish version. You will find out the more you learn, as I did, the less possible it is to translate a sentence word for word. Try to learn by phrases instead of seperate words! hope this helps...see you around!
