Mudarse = change clothes

Question

Would the format be like this:

Ayer me mudé la camisa porque me vertí salsa chocolate por todas partes. Ayer me cambié la camisa porque me caí la salsa chocolate por dondequiera.

Edit: If it's "me cayo" and not "me caí" or "me vertió" and not "me vertí" please explain thoroughly why. Thanks very much.

I believe this is more the Latin American way. For us in Spain, mudarse is more used in animals, for example, in a snake when they change the skin and get a new one.

To answer your question:

"Ayer mudé la camisa porque vertí salsa de chocolate por todas partes" (this one is more the latin american, so maybe a native from there can help you better)

"Ayer me cambié la camisa porque se me cayó la salsa de chocolate por doquier" (thats more the spanish way)

edit: I'm not very good in explainning grammar, maybe someone else can do it better but I'll try. Caer is acting like a reflexive verb in this case, so you need the pronoun se to indicate that you did it yourself. In the case of vertir, is just the 1st person of the past vertir, cause the subject is "I".

As far as i remember from my years of spanish grammar in the school (already forgetting many things xD) Se is used as a reflexive pronoun in this case, pointing out that you did it yourself - Zizoun, Feb 19, 2010
