what is the translation for patching file for a software product?

A patch in computer terms is "un ajuste".

In Spanish we usually use the word in English "patch" or "crack". So you say: "Pegas el Patch en xxx carpeta" (Paste the patching file in xxx folder)
Or you can use the spanish word "parche"
Is that what you need?

Speaking as a programmer, I have never heard "patching file". "patch file" is often used (but is really an abbreviated way of saying "a file that contains a patch"). In my experience the "crack" offered by Benz refers only to patches that are intended to circumvent security restrictions (and is, therefore, much more specific).
