How to start a sentence.
I am starting to learn spanish. The most difficult part is knowing how to write a sentence. Sometime fear and embarrasment holds me back from cross over into the just "knowing" what to say and write. How did you over come the fear of speaking and writing spanish? Even greater, I do not have a partner to speak spanish with on a daily basis.

The best thing to do is try your best and let others help you. Say what you think is correct, and if you stumble or make a mistake, someone is bound to correct you or help you. Think about how we learned English. A child might say "I eated..." and he/she would quickly be corrected and told to say "ate" instead. So making mistakes is a great way to learn. Try immersing yourself in the language as well. Listen to Spanish music, watch Spanish television, try reading some books in Spanish. They make books for every level of reader. I don't know what your level is, but there are books that I read in Spanish 2 in high school like "Patricia va a California" and "Mi Propio Auto." I even learned some new things when I switched my facebook over to Spanish. Do not ever be afraid to speak or write, no one will ever give you a hard time for trying to learn.
Just do it! You have to get over your fear and just start writing and speaking what comes to your head. The best way to get over a fear is to force yourself to do the fear, over and over. I got over my fear of spiders along time ago by searching for them and forcing myself to grab them in my bare hands and hold them. It scared me at first but after a while it was nothing anymore. That is just an example, the same goes for anything.
I make a fool out of myself just about everytime I try to speak or write spanish but I still learn from my rediculous mistakes. You have to remember when people correct you, they aren't putting you down, just trying to help you so don't take it the wrong way.
If you don't have someone to talk with, talk to yourself out loud. Make sure it is outloud. Even if it is just simple words or phrases. You may be perceived as crazy but who cares.
When I am doing stuff around the house I like to tell myself what I am doing or about to do in spanish(to the best of my ability, that is). It is good practice for getting used to the natural flow of speaking and being able to say things without thinking. I am still a beginner but I now catch myself mumbling to myself in spanish sometimes instead of english and it amazes me that I didn't even have to think about it. ![]()
just do it the same way you did when you were a kid (or girl), just practice shamelessly until you get it right (when you are a kid that means getting to eat). given experts had to learn at some point and sound imperfect for a while, there is nothing wrong with that. you are wrong thing to do is not trying. you have nothing to lose at all.
Listening to the pronunciation of spanish words could help you practice if you listen to them and repeat right after, these videos are great for practicing:
Hi Kimberly,
Welcome to the forum! And you are absolutely right, putting the words together into sentences is one of the hardest parts of learning a new language. And one that people are often afraid of, so they don´t learn.
You have nothing to fear but fear itself ! Honest, nobody here bites. In fact, everyone will be nothing but encouraging even when you make mistakes.
Every day we have a "word of the day" thread, and you can post a sentence there. Usually someone will even help correct any mistakes. Even a simple sentence is better than nothing.
If you look under the "Categories" tab, you will find all kinds of games and challenges. Pick the ones that you can do and write! Even if it´s just "me gusta..."
Hope to see you around more!!! Kattya
