¿Cómo se dice...?

¡Hola!

How would you say "Last weekend, I helped my friend and his family move into their new house"? I'm writing an essay for my Spanish class, and this is the only sentence I'm really not sure how to write correctly. I know it's very rudimentary, but I would really like some help.

¡Ayúdame!

Gracias, -Rosalind

Thank you so much!

I knew about "mudarse", I'm just unsure of how to use it in the sentence. I can definitely try, if you want... (Unfortunately, I'm a huge perfectionist and hate making mistakes... And I'm terrible in the preterite, even though this site has a wonderful conjugator. smile)

Here's my sentence:

"El fin de semana pasado, ayudé mi amigo y su familia se mundaron a su casa nueva."

I have a feeling this is terribly wrong... But it would be better to know now than to discover that it is on my graded paper...

If you consider mi amigo y su familia a d.o., then don't forget the personal "a". - 0074b507, Feb 14, 2010
Oh, of course, the personal "a". Something I constantly forget, despite the efforts of my Spanish teacher! ¡Muchas gracias! - RosyRosalind, Feb 14, 2010

Nice job! It´s not horribly wrong, just a little bit wrong!!

You need another "a" as well -- ayudar a alguien a hacer algo.

So, "ayudé a mi amigo... a mudarse a su casa nueva."

Also, "pasada" needs to match "semana".

I know all about bewing a perfectionist!! But honestly, the effort of putting it together does a lot more for your brain than just reading the right answer.

Thanks! Which is why I completely understand why you suggested I wrote it out! :) I just remembered the personal "a" (which I always forget), and I wasn't sure if "pasada" needed to match "semana". ¡Muchas gracias! - RosyRosalind, Feb 14, 2010

A bigger hint:

If you threw your sentence into our translator, here is what you would get:

"El fin de semana, le ayudé a mi amigo y su familia se trasladan a su nueva casa."

Edit it as you see fit and ask for suggestions.

(e.g. It implies "last weekend" by using past tense. If you want to specifically say "last" weekend add "pasado")

Hi Rosy, Welcome to the forum! Please post your attempt, and we´ll help you out. At least try putting the words into the right order, even if you can´t figure out the grammar.

Hint: to move can be translated as "mudarse".
