Need some help with Nevar

Question

I was talking yesterday with my hispanic friend and she said: "es mucho problema cuando neva". She said that she has problems with this verb because she is not sure if she was supposed to say "neva" or "nieva"

I guess she said or meant ¨nieva¨, which is 3rd person singular and that´s the way we refer to weather conditions in Spanish. Llueve / nieva / hace frío / Hace calor / Está nublado
