Porque la palabra del día is alza, la busqué in el diccionario y ví que es femenina, pero también hay ejemplos como "al alza" que parece masculinos. ¿Cuál es?

Because the word of the day is alza, I looked it up in the dictionary and saw that it is feminine, but there are examples like "al alza" that look masculine. Which is it?

Words that begin with the soft "a" sound, even though feminine, use the masculine pronoun "el" in the singular. Example: el agua, las aguas.

That makes a lot of sense. I'm sure I must have learned that (and forgotten it) in the past. Thank you! - Lrtward, Feb 10, 2010
