I need your help internet/computer geniuses. I have three banners that won't go away no matter how many times I close them and I can not logout. Yes, I click the logout. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. The banners are nice but very distracting. They are not ads but, for points and badges. It has been this way for about 8-10 days. Thank you.

Ok here's what to do assuming IE or Firefox.

  1. Delete icon.
  2. Open browser normallly.
  3. Clear cache.
  4. Clear cookies.
  5. Clear all private data
  6. Clear history.
  7. Exit browser
  8. Restart computer
  9. Log in to windows
  10. Open Browser
  11. Go to www.spanishdict.com
  12. Log out.
  13. Recreate whatever icon thing.
  14. You should not a problem after that, (but you should try Opera browser.)

By "banners" I mean long rectangular boxes that say "3 points added for recall" "New High Score!" and the other one says "New badge awarded...." Thank you for helping me to clarify my question, jeezzle.

boxes come up on the screen? they don't do that when I get a badge etc... - jeezzle, Feb 10, 2010
they may be only through the learn section. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
I don't remember seeing them for other badges either. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010

Yes, they normally come up on the screen on "your page". I

Billy, which browser are you using? The "official" browser on this site, everything is tested with, is firefox. I am having problems with logging out on explorer. Actually one of my students is logged in on explorer for good I guess as I cannot log him out! confused

anyway, I am using firefox and Chrome, I can only recommend you to change browsers. Chrome is veeeeeeeeeery fast, but on firefox I have a corrector.

Yeah , I know, that seems impossible, I am the queen of typos, LOL

So when you restart the computer, and log into windows I assume you have a clear screen with nothing going on.. then you start your browser and come to Spanishdict.com... then what.

I am already and still logged on to spanishdict.com. I try to logoff by clicking the logoff thing and it goes to the page that people see when they visit the site and aren't members but I look at the top right and see that my name, etc. is still displayed - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
So, I am still logged in. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
It seems to be related to those banners since it all started when I went back to "learn" to try and earn a "Star Student Badge" the banners popped up and since then I can't logout. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
I have never logged out. What happens when you hit the site, those banners come up right away? - jeezzle, Feb 10, 2010
I use a shortcut, and when I arrive they are already there waiting. I have always used a shortcut and never had this problem. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
I close them but when I go anywhere else on the site they pop right back up. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
What do you mean you use a shortcut? on your browser? You start the computer, open your browser, and go to Spanishdict right? - jeezzle, Feb 10, 2010
I don't guess it's a problem but if I log on at a library or something when I travel I don't want my messeges, etc. messed withlike if I am at a library and it stays logged in someone could even delete me (my profile). - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
I use an i guess you call it an icon, you know you right click and go down to where it says "create short cut'. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
You're not catching what I am saying... Lay out exactly what you do from the moment you start your computer to the moment the popups appear. Every. single. step. Then I will know how to help you. - jeezzle, Feb 10, 2010
then you have an icon on your desktop to where you go directly to a website. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
OK, I shut down my computer every night so... I get up, I turn my tower on. I turn my cable modem on, I turn my monitor on. It starts windows. I enter my computer password. my desk top appears. I move my cursor to the icon that says spanish dict. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
and I'm here. I find that I am still logged in and ready to begin work. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
I typed it but I was out of space, of course I had to click on the icon for the shortcut to spanishdict. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
When I go to bed I try and logoff, the I close the window for the browser, then I shut down my computer. I have always done that with 3 computers now. Long before spanishdict. so it's unrelated. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010

Have you not closed your internet browser? I'm not even sure what you mean by "banners"...

Yes, I even shut down my computer completely. I have tried everything but unpluging the power. I hate to do that but sometimes it fixes things. Thank you for answering. - billy-jones, Feb 10, 2010
