I believe in honesty and sincerity. However, in this case, something tells me that I would have felt compelled to say yes on camera to keep from embarrassing the guy. I would then tell him the truth privately, at which point he could save face somehow.

I know there are no good choices here. I'm just wondering what you would have done?
