Using -SE verbs this specific way...
These aren't reflexive, they're transitive or whatever. My question is with verbs like despedirse. I understand that you would say "I say goodbye..." with "Me despido..." but what if you're trying to say "I say goodbye to HIM" I'm not sure where to put all the pronouns or whatever. Is it "Le me despido" Or "They made me happy...." You need something for "me" and "they" since the verb is alegrarse. Is it "Se me alegraron"? Or "He made her happy when..." "Se le alegró cuando..."?
I'm sorry if I can't get the question out right, but I hope someone understands what I'm trying to ask! Haha

I was going to answer this but I hate SE so much and I couldn't be 100 percent sure. I don't think alegrar needs the SE when attaching to other people like "Le alegró cuando...." as for despedir it may also not...I know I have said to people "Me esposa me dejó sin despedir" as in easy way to avoid the issue.
As for verbs that really do need it, like quejarse. I look at this "No se me queja ningun vecino" and wonder... It's No se ME QuejA Ningun Vecino. No neighbor complains to me.
I would just keep it simple and say:
Me despido de él => I said goodbye to him
Me alegaron => They made me happy
