Tal vez esto lo hizo el destino

Tal vez esto lo hizo el destino

I know this is saying "Maybe this is destiny" or something similar. My question is about lo hizo. If it was hacerse - to become, then it seems like "Tal vez esto se hizo el destino" (Maybe this became destiny) would be better (and does seem better to me) but it's not. It's "Tal vez esto lo hizo el destino" which seems like "Maybe this made it destiny" which I don't understand.

It's the second line here: link text

Ah gotcha. Maybe destiny did this. Seems redundant with "esto" and "lo". Maybe destiny did it (this). Weird.

Tal vez esto lo hizo el destino = Maybe this was done by destiny.

I'm not a native but this phrase means in an English translation: Maybe destiny caused this. There is no comfortable word for word English translation.

Lo hizo = made it or did it or caused it.

Hope this helps.
