They're both wrong, the correct term is "mariscal".

In American football the quarterback is "mariscal de campo" This is in from a native speaker here in the north of Mexico. Speedo got it.

quarterback="El capitan del equipo" but you can use quarterback too.

The term "quarterback" is the same in Spanish as in English. The description of a "quarterback" is "jugador que dirige el ataque."
