Does it mean having a success or eating/drinking too much?

Actually it always means some kind of excess.
Fue a la discoteca y se puso las botas.
jeje, if you don't know this expression you would never guess this meant: he picked up a lot of girls![]()
Yes, it is like to eat a lot or drink a lot....
Always imply an excess.
