en 1960 - would be in 1960

but how do you say: "by 1960"

Specifically, I am trying to say: "By 1960 the people were fed up of the Americans."

...la gente estaba harta... de los americanos?

And for the record, I am not an America basher. smile

Gracias,

Hal

Pepitogrillo,

Basher es "one who bashes" y "to bash" significa romper o golpear. Entonces, basher significa rompero o golpearero (ja ja).

He's an NRA basher. (NRA is the National Rifle Association)

He's a Democrat basher.

I think Para los 1960 is incorrect. You can say Al llegar/ Al comienzo de los 60, meaning that decade.

Buena suerte smile

para is mostly used when you talk about decades and it is an aproximate date. If you talk about an especific year is better to say: en otra forma could be hacia 1980...

My dictionary shows PARA plus a date to indicate ...not later than. It gives simply...'en' plus 1960 as meaning ......by 1960. Possibly a regional variation?

It's just the opposite. "Ya para 1960, la gente estaba harta" By 1960 the people were fed up. "En 1960" is sometime during that year only. - 005faa61, Feb 3, 2010

Actually, you could say that people has been much more than fed up since a lot of years before.
