Hi Bob.

Just in case that article is too technical or you aren't interested in trying to tell your computer to use a different kind of keyboard, here are the shortcuts for the most common characters, using the number pad (on the right side of you keyboard):

  • é: ALT+130
  • á: ALT+160
  • í: ALT+161
  • ó: ALT+162
  • ú: ALT+163
  • ñ: ALT+164

Notice the nice pattern (except for the silly é). Also, to clarify, you need to hold down the ALT key while you press the number keys.

Setting up alternate keyboards is quite simple. Once set up, changing keyboards is also quite simple. - samdie, Jan 28, 2010

Simplest way in word is to click on "Insert" (top menu bar) click on "Symbols" (far right on menu).

Won't work for comments and doesn't allow one to "back up" and insert corrections. - samdie, Jan 28, 2010
