speaking about the weather and time

Hace frio, hace calor, hace sol - it is cold, it is hot, it is sunny. So far, so good. But I am told that you don't use hace when you say "It is cloudy." Is "Esta hublado." correct? Is hace used when saying that it is warm, cool, humid, and dry?

Hace mucho tiempo - it is a long time. In English "a long time" is an adverbial phrase. Does mucho tiempo function in the same way? How would you say I am going away for a long time? I assume that you would use hace. How do speak about a short time, as in It's only a short time until lunch?

Está nublado.

Me voy para mucho tiempo. Me voy para una estancia extendida.

Solo hasta la hora de comer.
