hola,

okay. so i'm really confused on when to use alguno versus when to use algun. i understand that algun goes in front of singular masculine nouns, but then when do we use alguno? the same question goes for ningun and ninguno. please help!

Algún and Ningún are adjectives.

Not always true. Alguno and ninguno can be used after the noun as an adjective. - 0074b507, Jan 28, 2010
See our dictionary for an example: No tengo interés alguno. - 0074b507, Jan 28, 2010

Ningún hombre usa botas, porque a ninguno le gusta usarlas.

Ningun niño ha almorzado, porque ninguno trajo comida.
