This is from wiki, fascinatingwink

I voted for it but it doesn't answer the question. since Espana is the mother country... are they latino... yes? - pilipina, Jan 24, 2010

Heidita's wikipost re-post was interesting. In terms of self-identification, I don't imagine many Romanians call themselves Latinos

At least according to the U.S. Census Bureau, latinos is strictly defined as people of spanish culture of origin. The funny thing is that it does not include Brazilians.

What's funny about that? Brazilians speak Portuguese. - TheSilentHero, Jan 24, 2010
So? they should be included, their language is of latin origin - 00494d19, Jan 24, 2010
The interesting thing is that you would think the Census Bureau categorizes everyone from Latin America into a group, but now they are putting Spain with the rest of Latin America but not Brazil? - coolbee, Jan 24, 2010
Also, Latinos should have a broader meaning to include all language of Latin descent, or else they should come up with something else that categorizes things more effectively. - coolbee, Jan 24, 2010
I've always thought it was by location i.e. Latinos are from Latin America, language is too broad or else you could label the French "Latinos" which is obviously wrong. - TheSilentHero, Jan 24, 2010

I would have thought people from Latin America would be Latinos (whether they spoke Spanish or not), and people from Spain I have always called Spaniards...and since they are nowhere near Latin America, I would never have considered them Latinos...not that that is somehow correct or anything...just the way I have always considered it.
