I thought that Quiero meant " i want." Does it?

Yes that is the most common usage for the verb querer, quiero = I want, quieres = you want, quiere = he/she wants then of course there is the plurals of those three examples which you will find if you clic on more at the top of this page and then from the drop down menu congugations then type querer in the box clic congugate and you will get all the tenses and congugations for that verb.
