what is "vos" and how it is used?

I know it means "tu", but ...why not just use tu?

"vosotros" is 2nd pers plural (informal) and, where used (much of Spain), is the plural equivalent of "tú".

"vos" is an alternative to "tú" (2nd pers singular) used primarily in Argentina (and, to a lesser extent) some other regions of S.A. and C.A. It's use is referred to as "el voseo" and also involves different verb endings (unique to el voseo).

Vosotros (you) is a formal way of speaking (at least that is what I was taught). It is very much a part of the language and should be used more, in my humble opinion. I hope this helps.
