"Casa en vente." ¿De qué es vente?

"Casa en vente" means "house for sale". You see it on signs, and on the internet in real estate ads.
But what is this word, "vente"? It's not a form of vender, nor is it in the dictionary in this form. So what is this word?

I guess the correct way should be: Casa en venta, House for sale.
