Hi Julistia,

Learning Spanish is an excellent thing to strive for. This question has been asked many times and in many ways. Unfortunately, there are no real short cuts to learning a new language. You must put in the time and effort.

I would suggest that you spend some time thinking about your reasons for learning Spanish. If you do not have a specific reason or purpose, you will probably never make it a priority. If you are still a student and very busy, this may not be the right time in your life to start learning a new language.

However, if there is an important reason behind this such as learning to be able to speak to friends, plans to travel, etc., then with a little organization and determination, you can make great strides towards this worthwhile goal.

If you decide that learning Spanish is really important to you, than make a commitment to spend a certain amount of time daily working on this. I know you say you are busy, but people are often surprised how much extra time they find if they eliminate indiscriminate TV watching, updating Facebook statuses, etc. Even spending twenty to thirty minutes a day or so will reap tremendous benefits over the course of a few months. You will be amazed at your progress.

Make every moment count. Organize all of your learning materials together and have a study plan. I would suggest the Learning videos on this site to start with. Also, have what I like to call "To Go" learning materials. Keep a Spanish grammar book with you for times when you are waiting for a doctor's appointment, waiting for the train, etc. I have learned some amazing things during these "extra" little minutes I spend waiting.

Once you start to make some progress, you will become even more motivated and creative in your own personal learning program. And as always, whenever you have problems or questions, you can always join us in the forum.

Buena suerte. I know you can do this! Nicole

¡Hola!

The easiest way to learn Spanish, if you can afford it, is to take private lessons from someone that knows the language (preferably a retired Spanish Teacher, or someone with significant knowledge of grammar etc)

If you can't do that, then take a class at your school, which I am assuming you are doing.

Using this website is absolutely essential because all that you would ever need to know can be found here, and you can always ask questions and get the CORRECT answers from some very knowledgeable people on this site.

Also, get the Oxford Spanish Dictionary on CD for your computer. I use it all the time. It is the same thing as the 10 pound book, but MUCH better! The ISBN is 978-0-19-860683-3. It is only about $35.00.

You can go from English to Spanish and Spanish to English.

It has part of the program called "Real Speak" where you can type in a Spanish paragraph, and an excellent orator speaks the words in Spanish. You can also set the tempo of the speech, so you can slow it down to get the exact emphasis etc.

It is also important that if you find someone who speaks Spanish, that they really know about grammar.

Also, an English speaking person needs to think like a Spanish speaking person. The two languages have different ways of taking in information from the outside world and assimilating impute to form the words that are describing what they are trying to say.

For example: In English we would say "How old are you"; In Spanish they say "How many years do you have".

Specifically this whole process is called Neuro-linguistic programming, and has to do with the way the brain organizes information, and then forms language structure.

Once you observe the way the Spanish speaking people do this, it makes it much easier for someone trying to learn the language.

Watch TV shows in Spanish that has captions.

Study the language EVERY DAY and try to find someone that you can speak with that knows the language so you can hear what they are saying, and they can correct your mistakes.

It takes a long time to get fluent. But it can be done, and try to keep in mind that you are "having fun" learning a new language. Attitude is important.

the best advise I would give you is to watch spanish novelitas which have subtitels. try: Munica Brava it's working wonders for me. the only things is because I love the novelita and spanish so much, I watch everyday for an hour at least. you will be dreaming in spanish after 2 weeks. Forget about grammar, it's the worst way to learn any language as a beginner. you have to learn like babies do. did you ever seen a baby reading about passive subjunctive preterito non sense? I bet never! he he he he good luck sister Aicha
