Iberian American?

I recently watched a film that used the term "Iberian American" when refering to a character. I've never heard this phrase before. Does it mean someone born in Spain but now living in North America or South America? Thank you!

A person from one of the Ibero-American countries (colonies of Spain and Portugal in the Americas).
