"walilla" for white lady?

My friend's Mexican-American family referred to me as what sounded like "la walilla" (am writing it phonetically) but I can't find the word anywhere. He said that it meant white or light-skinned lady, but he doesn't know how to spell it. Can anyone help? What is the actual word? I know it wasn't meant as an insult! ¡Gracias!

Welcome to the forum!

Could it possibly be "la Vainilla"? The word for "vanilla" is "vainilla". Sometimes Puerto Ricans (and maybe others, I don't know) use the term "azúcar morena" (brown sugar) to refer to attractive women, and since you are apparently not "brown sugar", you might be "vanilla"!

Whatever it was, your boyfriend is right - it's a compliment.

'Vanilla' is possible. Could I have also misheard 'bolillo' ?
