Beyond that, I think it´s a great idea to read lots of books, starting with children´s books (for example, many libraries have toddler books in Spanish, then you could graduate to Clifford or Frog and Toad...) You will probably want to learn how the language fits together at some point, and for that Paralee´s vides (on this site, under "Learn Spanish") are both wonderful and free. And the flashcards can help you learn vocabulary.
I think it would be hard to start only by watching movies. Maybe kids videos would work though.
Welcome to forum and good luck with your goals!
Hi! Apparently there are three main categories of learner, so in theory the most efficient way to learn Spanish (or most other subjects) would depend on what type of learner you are.
There are sites on the Internet where you can do tests to find out which category you fall under, but basically they are:
Visual learner = If you find that you learn best by reading or seeing examples. Auditory learner = If you pick things up more quickly by listening to others. Kinesthetic learner = If you find you learn best by doing physical activities.
Apparently most people fit into one 'dominant' style of learning which suits them best, and therefore if they match their education method to their learning style they will learn in the most efficient way.
Most schools and teachers have traditionally tended to focus on the Visual and Auditory learning style - which is OK for the Visual/Auditory learners, but not very well suited to the other type. In fact, I think there is an argument that a lot of people who don't do well at school tend to be the Kinesthetic learners, because although teachers mostly use speech and text in their lessons, they don't often include physical activities for learners (except for writing - which is better suited to the Visual learners).
Fortunately nowadays there are other methods available - for example audio CD (e.g. the "Michel Thomas Method") for the Auditory learners, and interactive DVDs with games etc for the Kinesthetic learners. (well done spanishdict.com for including audio clips and flashcards etc
)
But personally, I've found that the best way to learn Spanish has been to do a bit of everything - listen to audio clips and movies and Spanish-language internet radio for pronunciation, read about the grammar, use flashcards and computer games. And try and track down a real live Spanish-speaker for 'intercambio'.
Whichever way you choose to learn it - ¡buena suerte!
The easiest way and maybe the most quickest and efficient is hiring a teacher or going to school. If you just want to try it out then i think this website is good. There are other spanish websites but this one is pretty good.
Well, it depends on your learning skills. But to me i think geting someone hispanic to help you with the pronunciation and the accent.
I agree, get a spanish girlfriend/boyfriend!
La mejor forma para aprender español es que te ligues una novia española.
The easiest way in my oppinon is to hang out wit bilingual people nd ask them nicely to throw in some Spanish words/phrases in their sentences. Some people like me would be more than happy to help because I know how hard it is to learn a new lAnguage. I have many learning disabilites but I manage to make it through theday but for every one person that would help you there's two that would tell you to f*** off. And it's ok becuse if you had something that u didn't want to share for what ever reason, then u wouldn't. I hope this helped you a little bit. Buena suerte(good luck)
being around people that speak spanish can really help you understand them better. asking what this means you know. i have alot of friends that often ask questions and i tell them how to pronounce it and spell it.
also watching spanish programs can really help you out (: i hope i helped

I am also new to this site, but I have already found a few things that help me learn efficiently as well as with better retention.
when you listen to the video exercise, do not over use pause.
Try to keep up with the pace that the teacher is speaking even when you don't grasp it all. Let it go by at the speed it is presented, and then go right to the flashcard exercise(s) to get better recognition.
while doing the flashcards, at first sght, of course you won't
know what the images are meant to represent. Just look at the image, then "show" the words under the image and listen to the pronunciation AND speak the words until you sound like what you hear. Now go to three other words, that you have already memorized, looking, showing and speaking them in the same way. Now, go back to the original word(s) to see if you remember it(them) correctly. If you have ANY trouble with any words keep going back and forth in like manner until the trouble word(s) become(s) a habitually known (memorized) word(s). Always make sure that you know the whole set of flashcards without trouble then go to your "recognize" exercise.
As you go, make up useful sentences for a flashcard set
of your own. Include your new words, tenses, and grammar facts in these sentences. This will help you start carrying on conversation and doing it correctly.
In the "recognize" exercise set a goal - get all frames correct.
Correct does not mean scoring 10, it just means that you pick the right words for each frame with even 1 point. Of course, it shows more ability if you score higher but the main thing is to know the answer not speed.
For the "listen" exercise LISTEN diligently.
The speaker is gving you the way to say the words. Even if it sounds like words are merged and slurred together, remember this is supposed to sound like the native speaker speaking, not the student.
The "recall" exercise is hard for those who don't type well.
Just remember to get it correct and you get at least 1 point. Incorrect is always 0. This exercise makes your mind use memory. Memory helps you communicate with others.
Diligently do each of the above referenced exercises, and you
have a great chance to immediately do well on the "write" and "speak" exercises. You'll need to try it until you get it right, but that seems to be easy to do in SpanishDict, because it allows you to "practice, practice, practice" and have fun doing it until you get it right.
