Do you understand this sentence? The scene was in the forensic room. The policewoman was about to say goodbye to her friend who was killed during the work by a mad guy.
"Se quedó allí mirando durante horas, autoimponiéndose un castigo inhumano."
I am not sure what does autoimponiéndose means.

Maybe it means something like "she remained there for hours, cruelly abusing herself."

Because of the meaning that some attach to "self abuse", perhaps, "castigating/punishing" herself. - samdie, Jan 11, 2010
