I find it easier to remember that "conocer" is to be acquainted with/familiar with someone or some place. You can be acquainted with/familiar with Mexico and/or Mr Smith.

Saber is to know facts/information. I know how to ski.

Saber and conocer both mean to know....but they are different....

Saber means to know something, like a fact...

Conocer means to know a person, or where the location of a place is.

fcsoccergrl, welcome to the forum. Because your new I will tell you that "Saber" means "to know" but like a fact and "conocer" means "to know" but as in a person or place. I am sure the "gurus" on this site will weigh in soon. smile As for future posts, try to give an answer or research it on this site. IT is a great site to learn spanish. You can browse the dictionary or translation feature to learn as well as the videos. I highly recommend the video lessons. Paralee does a fantastic job explaining the language. There are some great people on here to learn from. Hope this helps and I look forward in learning spanish along with you!! wink
