Is there a difference between "a veces" and "de vez en cuando"?

Is there a difference between "a veces" and "de vez en cuando" in actual use? Is one expression more likely to be used in Mexico?

Yes there is a difference, a vecés means sometimes and de vez en cuando means once in a while(occasionaly) which I suppose ammounts to the same thing really all though I think sometimes is more often than occasionaly.
