menso.......

Many years ago I had a "love/hate" frienship with someone at work. We were good friends, and we joked with each other a lot. He had a nickname for me that I cannot find in the translator. He would call me "menso." What does that mean? I always thought it was like calling someone "stupid" or something along those lines. Was I close? confused

I don't think it's profane...I believe it means "easily fooled" or "gullible". It's possible in some contexts it means foolish, but I don't think of it as being as strong as "stupid".

Good question!

It seems I've seen "tonto" used as a sort of term of endearment...sort of like "cutie" or such. Specifically, I am referring to the Disney movie Bolt. A random stranger that Bolt (a dog) runs into, seems concerned that Bolt is lost from his owner, and I can't remember the Spanish sentence, but she was basically asking "Are you lost little puppy?" But in the Spanish track, she used the word "tonto" in reference to Bolt.

Also, perhaps your friend was basically being tongue-in-cheek and calling you "menso" because he/she considered you actually quite smart.
