"Menos mal" can mean several different things, depending on context. As Katya pointed out, a common translation is "thank goodness". It can also mean "at least", especially after a list of things that maybe aren't too great. For example, let's say that everything has gone wrong regarding our picnic in the park, but we say to each other "Menos mal que no llueve" (at least it's not raining).

Something like "Thank goodness" or "so much the better".
