What does the word ley'o mean?
Apparntly it's not in your database but it's on my kids 3rd grade Spanish homework

On a guess, what is printed in your child's reader is "leyó" with an accent over the letter "O". I'm guessing this because Spanish doesn't usually tend to recognize short form words like the English word "don"t" that rely on an apostrophe to create the abbreviation.
Assuming the word in the reader is "leyó". it is the third person singular preterit (a past tense) of the verb leer. It would mean "he/she/or it read" as in "yesterday, he read the paper."
I hope this is some help.
