Yo voy al cine.

I have friend from El Salvador tell me that it should be "boy" not "voy". Is that correct? The verb is obviously "ir".

It is correct v in spanish is pronounced as b but in reality how the b explodes from your lips is a regional thing sometimes it is a very pronounced b and others it is somewhere between v and b anyway however you pronounce it you would be understood.

That is correct. The v will sound like a mix between a b and a v. - JohnnyK, Jan 6, 2010

Actually, not always. I know that (well, my Spanish teacher told me that) it's "Yo voy al cine" not "Yo boy al cine." But I also know that, in some cases, the "v" is pronounced as a "b" but not always. I really hope this helps, vsorochkin

Good luck!
