Ser, Estar, and Tener

is there an easy way to know when to use these? i always get them mixed up and use the wrong verb. some useful way to remember these would be great.

I think the best way is to keep on practicing on examples and checking the answers. It becomes easy with time and practice. smile

But generally, "tener" means "to have">>> Tengo diez bolígrafos. [I have ten pens.] "Estar" is "to be" but for temporary expressions, that can change. >>> Estoy contento. [I am happy.] "Ser" is "to be" but for describing characteristics, the time, etc. >>>Yo soy rubia. [I am blonde.]

Ser and Estar both mean to be

The best way to learn them would be to study, alt text BUT! If you look at a few lessons into Learn Spanish 1, you'll find a few lessons teaching you how to determine easily between when to use ser and when to use estar.~
