What does "dar la gana" mean?

I'm just curious, because I was watching a movie in Spanish, and one of the characters said:

"No me da la gana."

I wasn't sure exactly what this means, ¡Le doy gracias por su ayuda! grin

ori is making a mistake in that she is mistaking the word "ganas " with ganar. But, here in the sentence " no me da la gana" the word "gana "means the following:

Deseo, apetito, voluntad de algo. U. t. en pl. con el mismo significado que en sing. Ganas DE comer, DE dormir from RAE dictionary

Of course no me da la gana, like lorenzo wroter means, I don't want to.

Ganar means to gain something or win at something
