To follow up Heidita's comment: "To snorkel" would be "Bucear con tubo."

However , if you are going somewhere in the Spanish-speaking world where snorkeling is very common, then even non-English speaking people will recognize "snorkel."

We have been to Cozumel, Mexico a couple of times and we heard 'esnorquel' and 'esnorquelear' frequently. Those words are not in most official dictionaries, but it's what the Hispanics there were using. smile

I believe you were asking it's origin, and to me, it's sounds Northern-European to me, possibly German.

edit: Ok, I actually did some research for you, and I was right. The word "snorkel" comes from the German word "schnoerkel".
