When to use the verb oír and escuchar

¡Hola!

I noticed the verb "oír" and "escuchar" have basically the same meaning, to listen to, to hear.

I believe the verb "oír" is used more for "to hear", while the verb "escuchar" is used more for "to listen to". However this is just a guess.

Any help on when to use which verb would be most appreciated. ¡Le doy gracias por su ayuda!
